Job title: Trainer Assessor Register - Health & Social Care

Location: Belfast - The post holder may be required to work in any of the College’s buildings as necessary. Candidates will also be required to travel to meetings/training on sites across NI to facilitate peripatetic delivery of apprenticeship programmes

Salary: £23,166 - £27,394 (pro rata if part time)

Contract: Full-time and Part-time

Closing date: 13/12/2017

Hours of work: Up to 36 hours per week. The post holder will be required to adopt a flexible approach (including evening work/Saturday work, if required) and to devote such time as maybe required by the exigencies of the post.

Role: 

The Trainer Assessors will play a significant role in the delivery of the growth and development strategy for the Centre for Skills & Apprenticeships within the College.  The post holders will work with the Centre Manager for Skills & Apprenticeships, Employer Engagement team and other Departments across the College to  ensure that Belfast Met is recognised for excellence in its delivery of training and apprenticeships and employer engagement and to ensure that the College is recognised as a partner for success in the delivery of the economic vision for the region.

The post holder will be employed as a Trainer / Assessor, working primarily on the College’s ApprenticeshipsNI provision within BMET’s Centre for Skills & Apprenticeships and will train and assess, delivering the qualifications required for the apprenticeship framework.  Reporting to the Centre Manager for Skills & Apprenticeships, the post-holder will deliver on BMET’s Apprenticeship strategy by developing relationships with employers and assessing how their training and development needs could benefit through the apprenticeship programme.  The post-holder will deliver knowledge and skills transfer through a range of methods such as directed training, workshop sessions and assessment.  The post-holder will have clear targets to increase the volume of work and income within their professional & technical area and for ensuring that BMET benefits from the employer engagement in terms of industrial knowledge transfer and curriculum development.

What you need

  • Applicants must  hold a minimum of a level 3 qualification  (e.g. NVQ level 3) in the professional and technical area(s) in which they are teaching/training*
  • *NB: successful candidates will be required to possess a qualification at least one level higher than the qualification in which they are assessing.
  • English GCSE at Grade C or above, OR Essential Skills level 2 (or higher) in Communication, or equivalent.
  • Maths GCSE at Grade C or above, OR Essential Skills level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or equivalent
  • EITHER hold, or be in the process of completing an Assessors Award (TAQA or A1/A2 equivalent), OR give a commitment that you will undertake and complete the Assessors Award  within one year of taking up the post.
  • EITHER hold, or be in the process of completing a Certificate in Teaching (CIT), OR give a commitment that you will undertake and complete the CIT qualification within two years of taking up the post.
  • Have at least 2 years’ industrial experience within the last 5 years, of working in your chosen area of specialism.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing training in the chosen area of specialism
