Site Director - Hovis Ireland

Location: Belfast, GB

Hovis Limited is a vertically integrated baking and flour milling business currently operated by The Gores Group as part of a stand-alone joint venture. The Company was created in April 2014 to help release new investment to upgrade its operational infrastructure and reinvigorate the Hovis brand, building on its rich heritage. Nish Kankiwala our CEO brings a wealth of commercial and marketing experience from previous roles with Unilever, Pepsico and Burger King. He has been an integral part of the business for the past 2 years and has recently taken over as CEO.

Hovis Ireland operates from its Belfast site and is focused on developing the Hovis brand on the island of Ireland in line with Hovis Group strategy.  We produce a range of both branded and own label bread and morning goods products which are sold across Ireland and beyond.

Role Purpose

The role will focus on providing inspirational leadership to the site leadership team through the alignment and execution of effective business strategy.  To deliver exceptional results across all areas of Operations & Logistics Excellence ensuring 100% legal compliance in all aspects of business operations and to maintain and extend the Hovis Philosophy of  prioritising Health & Safety.  Lead and Inspire a high performing SLT to drive breakthrough performance in all areas, ensuring full integration and ownership across the Operations & Logistics Teams to deliver Industry leading performance and the highest standards of health, safety, environmental control, technical compliance, food safety, quality, operational efficiency, all Logistics compliance obligations, every day customer service and people resource development.  (Note: SD will have full responsibility for Logistics but Logistics Manager will have a dotted line into the Logistics GM).

Advocating and inspiring a Leadership approach to engage with all site Colleagues, harnessing the potential of every employee every day, establishing clear Standards and facilitating a consistent approach to Daily Site Control through Gemba and Visual Management.  Working within the Hovis Site Director / General Manger network fully embracing a ‘One Bakery’ approach and driving best practice across the network.

Essential role related knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience at selection

  • Recent and relevant experience in senior management and leadership roles at both operational and strategic level.
  • 5-10 years FMCG experience in food or other regulated sector.
  • Degree qualified (preferred)
  • Relevant qualification in Operational Excellence, Supply Chain Management & Kaizen
  • IT Literate
  • Champion of engagement through leading and coaching both individuals and teams.
  • Seeks out and shares best practice across the business
  • A strong leader who demonstrates commitment and integrity.
  • The ability to motivate a team & deliver through people.
  • First-hand experience of working as part of a business that employs a best in class approach to health and safety culture.
  • Working knowledge of UK food quality, safety and technical compliance requirements covering both Manufacturing & Logistics
  • Experience of developing and executing an Operational Excellence strategy incorporating modern manufacturing & logistics tools, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Direct experience of unionised environments
  • Demonstrable change management experience in a unionised environment
  • An effective communicator with excellent experience of both internal and external, stakeholder management.
  • Cross functional relationship building and working together as one business team.
  • An individual who can effectively track and measure performance; both operationally and for the team.
  • Financial awareness with a strong business acumen, the ability to deliver on Budgets together with a sound understanding of operational & logistics P&L’s and KPI’s.
