Job Title: SHE ADVISOR

Reporting to: General Manager

Location: Breedon Products, namely Brick, Tile and Cement Terminal

Main Purpose:

SHE Advisor will support the Breedon Products Ireland division, in promoting Health and Safety within the business and to carry out audits against Health & Safety objectives and monitor H&S systems and procedures. The key objective for the post-holder is the elimination of workplace accidents, environmental incidents and ill health within their respective area of control. The postholder will support operational management in their respective area of the business on SHE issues, providing suitable advice, assistance and training.

Key Tasks:

• To support management and the further development needs of the Company IMS and associated database systems

• In conjunction with operations management and the sustainability resource management team, review on a regular basis the effectiveness of the Management system procedures and ensure their development to maximise effectiveness and reduce cost;

• Ensure all accidents, dangerous occurrences, significant near-hits, incidents and cases of occupational ill health in their relevant area are fully investigated using root cause analysis techniques and advise on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence; as appropriate

• To liaise with Company engineers, managers and contractors regarding the performance of plant and equipment, to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.

• To assist in the application for environmental permit applications for part A installations and variations across all Breedon Ireland/UK sites. Co-ordinate PPC, other necessary environment related applications and production of environmental impact assessments, where necessary.

• Where appropriate, to act as the primary point of contact for the local or national health, safety or environment regulatory and enforcement bodies.

• To work with employees and contractors, at all levels, to ensure regulatory compliance and improved SHE performance on our sites. Work with site managers to ensure a consistent approach to SHE management across all Company operations.

• To monitor and report on SHE performance across the area under your control. To monitor and promote follow up actions from internal/external audits and incidents.

• To advise the business on compliance requirements for SHE requirements outlined in the IMS. Support industry bodies (both at a UK and European level), working groups or MPA/QNJAC, as directed by line-management.

• To attend and advise the safety, health or environmental committees in your area of responsibility or as advised by line-management.

• To support the embedding of sustainable behaviour and practise on operational sites

• To promote competence training, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, disseminating best practice and carrying out behavioural auditing and site inspections for Health and Safety, Environment and Sustainability

Role Requirements:

The role requires an experienced SHE Advisor capable of communicating with persons at all levels. the post holder must be able to carry out the functions defined in the key accountabilities and undertake continual professional development.

The role holder is expected:

• To comply with all aspects of the Breedon Compliance Policy

• To ensure that all the business/operations are performed in accordance with instructions and procedures and in such a way so as to prevent any fraudulent activities taking place

• To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and to observe the requirements of the Company Sustainability Policy and other relevant legislation

• To update all areas of knowledge as required to carry out the job with maximum effectiveness and to attend training/development courses as and when required

• To comply will all aspects of the HR Policies and Procedures of the Company

• The number of sites included in the area will be subject to change as the needs of the business may require it.

• Although predominantly working in the area defined by the General manager, the post holder will from time to time be required to travel outside of their normal area of work.

Qualifications & Experience:

• NEBOSH/IEMA Certificate or equivalent

• NEBOSH/IEMA Diploma or equivalent (desired)

• IOSH/IEMA membership (desired)

• Certified auditor (desired)

• Trained in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) techniques (desired)
