The Open-Centre Turbine is designed to be deployed directly on the seabed. Installations will be silent and invisible from the surface. They will be located at depth and present no navigational hazard.
Farms of Open-Centre Turbines will provide a significant and undetectable supply of clean, predictable, renewable energy. Communities that benefit from power supplied by Open-Centre Turbine technology will never be conscious of the turbines' existence.
The development of Open-Centre technology began in the US during the early 1990s in a climate of increasing awareness of the global need for research and development in renewable energy.
OpenHydro has over a decade of experience in developing and testing the Open-Centre Turbine in marine conditions. Openhydro was formed in 2005 after negotiation of world rights to the Open-Centre technology in late 2004.
In 2009 OpenHydro was awarded the Engineer’s Ireland Innovative Company Award, as well as the Irish Times Leadership Group Renewable Energy Award and the Company Pioneer Award at Energy Ocean 2009.
