Vickerstock have been asked to assist with the hiring of an experience Mechanical Design Engineer for our Client who is based in the Antrim area.

Joining one of the companies four Mechanical Design teams (Over 40 people - consisting of Engineers, Technical Specialists, Managers, Technicians & Students), you would be a key member, responsible for the mechanical design and release.


The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the following duties within the role:

  • To develop design solutions within inter-disciplinary teams to achieve Customer requirements and manufacturing challenges.
  • To make use of mechanical engineering principles, materials knowledge, and simulation tools for designs proposals, detail design and prototyping.
  • To be familiar with in-house manufacturing processes (Calibration, leak testing, welding/soldering, and adhesive and gel dispensing).
  • Proficient user of 3D CAD modelling tools, preferably Solidworks and/or Catia.
  • Developing product specific test matrices and conduct feasibility & reliability testing on new and modified designs.
  • Co-ordinating the prototype building, testing and validation & fault diagnosis for parts/products.
  • To have an awareness of Design to Cost and Design for Manufacturability.
  • Develop D-FMEA in APIS and supporting documentation to progress through the NPDE^2 Design Release Process.
  • Maintaining & releasing product documentation (drawings, specifications, reports, etc.) though Agile.

Criteria/Essential Experience

The Mechanical Design Engineer must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Minimum 2:1) or equivalent.
  • Experience in 3D CAD packages & 2D drawing preparation - All 3D design package experience will be considered.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) & interpersonal skills.
  • Highly computer literate / proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Initiative, team working, research & problem-solving skills are essential.
  • A valid driver's licence is required.

Desirable Criteria

  • 2+ years' experience in a similar environment, however Graduate applications will be considered for this role
  • Knowledge of Catia, Unigraphics and/or Solid Works CAD Modelling Packages preferred
  • Experience of plastics and/or rubber moulding
  • Experience of high volume manufacturing processes.

Occasional travel may be required, e.g. visiting Customers, Suppliers & other R&D/Manufacturing sites.

This is a full time permanent role Monday to Friday.
