The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is now recruiting a Band 8b Divisional Accountant. 

Divisional Accountant

SALARY: £48,756 - £59,370

HOURS: Full Time 

DIRECTORATE/DIVISION: Finance

INITIAL LOCATION: Greenmount House, Ballymena 

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Financial Management

The jobholder will be responsible to the Assistant Director of Finance – Financial Management for the provision of specialist business and financial information and advice to individual Divisional Directors, senior operational managers, clinicians and budget managers within the relevant Directorate. 

He/She will support them in the achievement of financial balance whilst meeting all other key commitments. This will specifically include the reporting and evaluation of financial performance and associated non-financial indicators, evaluation and monitoring of plans for change or improvement and design of processes to evaluate and solve complex problems. 

He/She will be the line manager for Directorate Support Accountants within their Division. 

He/She will assist the Assistant Director of Finance – Financial Management, with the production of the financial strategy, the financial plan, the annual budget setting process, the production of monthly management accounting information, monthly reporting of financial performance to the HSSA and the Trust Board all within an agreed timetable. 

The jobholder will deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance – Financial Management as and when required.

Essential Criteria:

•  A minimum of 2 year’s post qualifying experience in a senior management role* with evidence of continuing professional development.

•  Delivered against challenging financial objectives and programmes for a minimum of 2 years with evidence of having made significant improvements.

•  Worked with a diverse range of Stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, to achieve successful outcomes for a minimum of 2 years.

•  Successfully demonstrated high level people management, governance, leadership and organisational skills for a minimum of 2 years.

•  Full membership of one of the five professional accounting institutes within the CCAB, or CIMA.

•  Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post

•  Have working knowledge of financial accounting systems.

•  Ability to deal with/influence other Directorates and outside agencies at senior levels.

•  Ability to manage and motivate staff.

•  Ability to work effectively within timescales and deadlines.

•  Ability to review and challenge current processes.

•  Ability to provide and present written reports/analytical analysis.

•  Advanced knowledge and understanding of business cases/ economic appraisals and efficiency/value for money within Health and Social Care.

*senior management role is defined as experience gained at Agenda for Change Band 7 and above or equivalent non HSC experience.
