What’s your job?
Lead Surveyor on Large scale MTC government works. Full cost controlling of overall contract and individual works from inception to completion. Managing and mentoring team to ensure contract targets are delivered consistently. Liaising closely with Contract Manager and Supervisors to ensure efficiency and success of contract. Undertaking site measures for account submissions. Engaging, reviewing & payment of sub-contractors. Contract reporting to directors.

How’d you get there?
During my placement year at college I was employed by Tracey Brothers based on site as assistant QS on Altnagelvin Hospital project.  Following graduation in 2006 I joined WH Stephens as a PQS on multiple projects of various nature and values.  In 2010 I joined MFS as MTC surveyor on various government contracts at Intermediate Level and have progressed to Lead Surveyor on a large scale government measured term contract.  Having gained valuable experience at a PQS company I wanted to return to hands on quantity surveying with a main contractor and with MFS expanding and growing it was a great opportunity for me to further my career and a major highlight so far was being awarded lead surveyor role on one of companies major contracts

What’s the best thing about your job?
I enjoy the nature of the work as a hands on practical approach is required with MTC surveying. A lot of site measuring and surveys along with office based requirements creates a varying role and one which continues to remain interesting. My contract undertakes a wide range of works to various specifications and also includes a lot of unique works therefore always developing my knowledge of the industry.

The contract on which I work,  has a lot of experienced and excellent personnel which makes my job a lot less stressful and we have a great understanding and working relationship. My colleagues in head office create a great working environment and I have established great friendships working here over the years.

Why would I recommend MFS?
MFS has a provided me with a wealth of experience and great opportunities and has been a solid foundation for my progression and development as a QS. This is a continuing trend as new personnel have good, knowledgeable and experienced people around them to help them develop their career.  I see my future at MFS as I have developed great links with the people on my contract and within the company as a whole. I have developed an understanding with my colleagues that has proven very successful for the delivery of our contract and this is proving very satisfying personally for me and one which I endeavor to continue.

How do you like to relax outside work?
My main interests are sport, namely Gaelic Football, of which I am involved at coaching level with my local club. I also enjoy travelling to various countries and cities of the world.
