RSPB Northern Ireland

The RSPB is one of Europe's largest wildlife conservation organisations.

We believe that birds and other wildlife enrich all our lives and are a sign of a healthy environment. With the support of more than one million members, the RSPB conserves and enhances the populations of wild birds, other wildlife and the countryside and coasts where they live. To create the most impact, we focus on priority species, habitats and sites, and set clear conservation aims and actions. These include owning and managing land as nature reserves and influencing land-use practices and governmental policies to benefit wildlife and the wider countryside.

The RSPB works in partnership with many people and organisations, both in the UK and internationally, and has a strong record of achieving conservation successes. To operate effectively, the RSPB works to create a climate of favourable public opinion and, as a charity, to raise funds to carry out its conservation work. Members are encouraged to act positively through their personal behaviour, through voluntary action and through financial support.

The RSPB is not opposed to material progress, but believes that progress must be sustainable and achieved through the wise use of natural resources. Our strengths lie in a clarity of purpose, freedom from party political allegiance, a large popular support and a high level of technical and professional competence. The RSPB prefers to reach the best outcomes for wildlife through discussion and consensus, but is prepared whenever necessary to confront opponents, however large and powerful.
