In March 2005, firmus energy was awarded supply and distribution licences to develop a natural gas network in ten key towns outside Greater Belfast. We are a subsidiary of Board Gais Eireann, who supplies natural gas and electricity to over 1 million customers in Ireland. Natural gas brings many benefits to customers, and has historically been the most cost effective fuel available for customers in GB and Ireland.

The introduction of natural gas in the 10 towns has helped increase the competitiveness of local businesses, attract inward investment and reduce fuel bills for all customers. To date, firmus energy has made over 7500 connections across its 10 licensed towns, laying close to 500km of gas mains, serving some of NI’s largest manufacturers as well as SME’s, NIHE and owner occupied properties. We are the first utility to introduce online billing for all customers and guarantee our prices against home heating oil, demonstrating our innovative approach to customer satisfaction.

This customer focused ethos has helped capture market share in the supply of natural gas in Greater Belfast and electricity to I&C customers across Northern Ireland. Since signing our first customer in Greater Belfast in 2006, we have secured major organizations, launching an SME offer in 2009.

The company has grown rapidly since 2005 and now employs 65 staff in its Antrim headquarters, and in 2008, after just over 24 months in operation gained Investors in People Accreditation.
