Job Title: Designer

Department: MJM Design          

Reports To:  Design Manager    

Job Purpose/Objective: 

To generate precise production & site-orientated drawing information, and coordinating it with other MJM departments, deliver a good quality product in an efficient and economical manner.

Report

This position will be placed within the MJM Design department and will be answerable to the design manager. While onsite the position is answerable to that particular project’s senior contracts manager.

Main Duties/Activities:

  • Quantify and order materials for the contracts production items.
  • Produce production drawings for MJM production dept.
  • Produce production drawings for external suppliers.
  • Produce drawing package for site requirements.
  • Produce job sheets / cutting lists for production dept.
  • Ensure the priority and delivery for the contract through liaising with contracts, production, and purchasing.
  • Produce ‘As Built’ drawing package for the client on a contracts completion.

Objectives

  • Short term: To show initiative, commitment and motivation. Show willingness to take on tasks and become familiar with the usage of standard operating procedures within the MJM design office.
  • Medium term: To become competent in requisitioning, designing and job sheeting joinery items and showing themselves to be consistent in seeing joinery items fully thru to production.
  • Long Term: To show themselves to be reliable and meticulous in their work. To be responsible for the delivery of all design related aspects of an area(s) on any particular contract. To attend site surveys and dry dock where required.

Required Education/Training

Necessary

  • Full AutoCAD capabilities required. Candidate needs to be capable of understanding and using Xrefs.
  • Proof of level of competency in AutoCAD required – qualifications/projects drawings etc.
  • Well spoken and written English.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good ability in analytical and problem solving skills.

Desirable

  • 2 years+ experience in a design office environment.
  • Previous experience onsite setting out and/or previous experience in joinery &/or metal fabrication or similar industries.
  • Marine work experience.
  • Knowledge of marine or land based construction products.
  • Solidworks capabilities very desirable but not necessary.
  • 3rd level education.
  • Experience in creating a cutting list for production purposes.

  • Inquisitive and genuinely interested.

Location & Travel Arrangements

The successful candidate will be based and spend most of their time in MJM offices in Newry Co. Down.

They will be required to attend sites worldwide throughout the year during dry-docks or to land based contracts as their experience grows. World travel will be an integral part of the position going forward.
