The Belfast Charitable Society, the city’s oldest Charity opened the Poor House in 1774, to care for the sick, needy and deprived.

It has had an illustrious history of caring ever since.

Today the Society cares for 100 residents in its state of the art Nursing Home at Carlisle Circus. All rooms are single and en-suite, with 40 of the rooms forming a dementia wing.

Clifton House Residential Home, situated in a wing of the original Clifton House, which was restored and modernised in 2000- 2002, is a charming home for 27 residents, 21 in single rooms and 6 in double rooms.

Amongst the 100+ employees, the homes employ 3 diversional therapists and encourage willing residents to participate in the wide range of activities on offer.
