Business in the Community stands for responsible business. As a membership organisation operating across the UK and Ireland, we have more than 850 member companies, 250 of these in Northern Ireland.

Together, our members employ almost 16 million people in over 200 countries worldwide. In Northern Ireland our members employ over 1 in 3 of the private sector workforce.

Our work is varied, exciting and extremely rewarding – giving an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of individuals and local communities. The atmosphere in our offices is friendly and relaxed and with a big emphasis on working as a team, there are regular opportunities for fun and social activities. We are a caring employer, as evidenced by being one of the first not-for-profit organisations to achieve the Investor in People Status in Northern Ireland. We are also committed to investing in the health and wellbeing of our employees and helping them to achieve a work-life balance and we work proactively address these issues with staff.

The organisation was founded in Northern Ireland in 1989 to help businesses meet the responsibilities they have within society, and it uses the skills, resources, influence, products and profits of its member companies to promote regeneration and bring about a change in attitudes towards doing business responsibly. Members work with us to address their responsibilities through a range of programmes and initiatives under three main headings – People, Planet and Place.

In 2010 Business in the Community, received the Northern Ireland Quality Award; was awarded the Irish News Best Place to Work Award for small companies and achieved BS8555 accreditation (recertified in August 2011).
